St Francis Group given permission to regenerate the gateway to Suffolk

St Francis Group have gained permission for a hybrid planning application to regenerate an existing industrial estate with development of adjoining land for 320 houses.

The site was once the home of British Xylonite who were the pioneers of worldwide plastic production starting operations on site way back in around 1887 and employing up to 5,000 people in their 1970s hay day and ceasing production in 2007.

The site is still home to ITW Imagedata and AOC and the new industrial permission gives access to an additional 44,000 sqm of building space on the land vacated in 2007.

The proposals also include the demolition of the remaining derelict buildings and provision of a significant amount of open space, both managed and left to nature to recolonise.
